Handling the Calls
Your number one resource for making money from robocalls
There are many pieces of information someone should want to collect from a telemarketer. Most likely, not all of this information can be found, but the more information collected, the stronger the case for the company to reach a settlement is.
If possible, attempt to get:
- The number that called you
- Typically, this number doesn't provide any information because of spoofing, but there are exceptions
- If possible, you may be able to trace this number
- The date, time, and duration of the call
- This needs to be kept to prove thet you have been called or texted and what number showed up on the caller ID
- Keep a screenshot of the call log for easier referencing later
- If there was a pre-recorded message
- Write down as much information from the message for future reference
- If asked to dial 1 to speak to an operator, do so to gather more information for future reference
- If you spoke to a live person
- Attempt to gather their first and last name
- If the person has a state issued license, public records contain critical information
- The callback number of the person that you spoke to
- A callback number is much easier to research than the possibly spoofed number they called you with
- This number often will appear on public records, also making the search easier
- An overview of the contents of the call
- Should you receive more than one call from this person, you will be able to tie multiple calls together with this information you collect
- Keeping a list of callback numbers can also help you recognize when the same company calls you again
- Email of the person that you spoke to
- This is another piece of information that allows you to better identify who the caller is
- Name of the company they represented
- Company names can be utilized on online services such as CorporationWiki and Manta to also identify the caller
Remember that charisma and patience are extremely effective tools against telemarketers
